Aptos, new Layer 1 blockchain and “Solana killer”, launched its mainnet to great enthusiasm last week. Since then, there’s been a lot of buzz from all sectors online. Ahead, some Aptos insights and developments you shouldn’t miss.
1. It’s highly-anticipated, to say the least
Even though it just launched, Aptos has been driving hype for a while now. The project is considered the successor of Meta’s Diem project, and uses the same smart contract language called Move. Its use of parallel transaction processing means that it can achieve a theoretical throughput of over 100,000 transactions per second — a stark contrast to the existing rates of other chains right now. This “scalable, safe, reliable, and upgradable” network had been in development by its team of industry experts at Aptos Labs for over three years, and even before launching was able to hit $4 billion in valuation.
2. Its token is making waves
APT, Aptos’s native token, has debuted with bang. Already, major centralized exchanges such as Binance, FTX, and Coinbase have listed APT for trading. Moreover, even before launch, the Aptos Foundation rewarded early testnet users with free APT tokens. As long as you completed an application for Aptos Incentivized Testnet or minted an APTOS: ZERO testnet NFT, you were eligible to receive up to 150 APT. On October 18, Aptos shared that it has allocated an estimated 20 million tokens for about 110,235 eligible participants. What a way to give back to the community.
3. It’s an NFT hotspot right now
From the top-selling Aptos Monkeys to the quickly-rising Aptomingos, NFT trading volume on Aptos has skyrocketed. Since its launch, Aptos Monkeys alone has generated more than US$2.3 million in trading volume (253,000 APT), according to data on Topaz, the Aptos NFT marketplace.
Some NFT projects are also making the switch to Aptos in the midst of all this activity. Aptos Top Sharks, Zodiac World, Mogu Dragonz, and Okay Bulls are among the first to announce their moves.
